Recently God used Amos 5, particularly verses 21-24 to help me to have a better understanding of the essence of WORSHIP. You see, the people of Israel were offering God worship that was insincere and there was plenty of sin taking place in the land. This angered God and He HATED their worship (Amos 5:21-23). Their music was noise to Him (v23), their burnt offerings were meaningless (v22) and their assembling together was a STENCH (v21b).
Picture it, we are dressed in our Sunday best and singing perfect harmonies but God is in Heaven covering His ears, while spraying the Heavenly air freshener to remove the stench of our sin-filled hearts. You see, we might be singing beautifully but to God it’s NOISE if our hearts aren’t in the right place. Let us then work to break free from the things that may be hindering our worship. I urge us all to seek God each day, knowing that when we seek Him we find Him (Jer 29:13), and I pray that we will receive revival and renewal as we spend time reading His word and communing with Him daily. Let us get our hearts in tune because worship to God is more than a song, but a righteous life dedicated for His glory (Amos 5:24, 1 Cor 10:31, Heb 13:15-16).
